How to play
- Pick a board, or take the Daily. Easy is a 5×5 grid, Medium 10×10 and Hard 15×15 — every puzzle is generated fresh and guaranteed solvable by pure logic. The Daily button deals one shared 10×10 picture puzzle each day: every player worldwide gets the same seed, so you can compare progress without an account.
- Read the clues. The numbers along the left and top edges describe the runs of filled squares in each row and column. A row marked "3 1" hides a block of three, at least one gap, then a single filled cell — the order is fixed, the gaps are the puzzle.
- Fill and mark squares. On a touch screen, tap a square to cycle it through three states: empty, filled, and crossed out. Crosses (×) are your proof marks for squares that must stay empty. With a keyboard, arrow keys walk the cursor — essential on the 15×15 Hard board, where squares sit smaller than a fingertip — and Enter cycles, X toggles a cross, Backspace clears.
- Watch the clues flip. When a row or column's filled squares match its clue exactly, that clue inverts to white-on-black — free confirmation the line is finished. There are no wrong-move warnings along the way; like paper nonograms, the picture itself is the only judge.
- Work the logic, never guesses. Full lines, edge blocks and runs overlapping from both directions crack the picture open step by step. Undo steps back through your marks one at a time, the built-in timer tracks your session, and progress is saved automatically if you close the browser mid-picture.
- Complete the picture. The puzzle is solved when every row and column matches its clues — since each board has exactly one solution, the symmetric hidden image emerges cell by cell as you deduce it, a Picross-style payoff that suits a paper-like screen.
Device compatibility
| Device | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Kindle Paperwhite (2021 and later) | Works | The built-in browser runs the full game; needs firmware 5.13.7 or newer. |
| Kindle Scribe | Works | The 10.2-inch screen shows even the 15×15 Hard grid at a comfortable size. |
| Kindle Colorsoft | Works | Same browser engine as recent Paperwhites — the game stays black-and-white by design. |
| BOOX (Go, Note, Tab, Palma and similar) | Works | Full Chromium browser, the smoothest e-ink experience; physical page keys move the cursor on models that have them. |
| Kobo (Clara, Libra, Sage and similar) | Limited | The built-in browser is dated and may not run the puzzle on every model or firmware version. |
| reMarkable | Not supported | No official browser app; third-party options require jailbreaking the tablet. |
| Older Kindles (experimental browser) | Not supported | Pre-2016 experimental browsers can't run modern JavaScript — this page stays readable, but the game won't start. |
Why it works on e-ink
A nonogram is a quiet, static puzzle and e-ink is a quiet, static screen — a natural pair. Nothing here blinks, animates or repaints behind your grid; only the square you touch redraws. The board reads like printed graph paper, comfortable in daylight through long sessions, at near-zero battery cost.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Every puzzle — including the Daily — is free to play with no account, no paywall and no ads. The site is part of the E-Ink.me family and is kept running alongside the free e-reader tools on the main site, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to sign up for.
Does it work on my Kindle Paperwhite?
If your Paperwhite is a 2021 or later model on firmware 5.13.7 or newer, yes — open the built-in browser, type in the site address and start filling squares. Older Paperwhites with the early experimental browser can display this page as plain text, but they cannot run the puzzle itself.
Do I need to jailbreak my Kindle?
No. The game runs entirely in your Kindle's built-in web browser. There is no app to sideload, no hack to apply and no warranty to worry about — opening a website is an ordinary thing for a Kindle to do. If your device can load a web page, it can load this game.
Can I play offline?
You need an internet connection the first time you open the page, because the site is delivered as a normal web page rather than a downloadable app. After it loads, the puzzle runs locally on your device — but e-reader browsers are not built for offline use, so plan on being connected when you start.
